The Animal Blood Bank of the Inland Northwest

The Animal Blood Bank of the Inland Northwest is now up and running. We offer Fresh Frozen Plasma, packed red blood cells, and the equipment needed to transfuse your feline or canine patient.

Screen Shot 2013-03-15 at 2.31.16 PM All of our donors are local pets that are examined by our doctors on each visit. Each animal is confirmed to be healthy, current on their vaccinations, is between 1 and 7 years old,and has had a CBC/chemistry/urinalysis (submitted to a reference laboratory) and fecal within the last 12 months. Our canine donors have been blood typed for DEA 1.1, 1.2, 4 and 7 and screened for Anaplasma, Bartonella, Babesia, Ehrlichia, Neorickettsia risticii, Hepatozoon, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Canine Hemotropic Mycoplasma (Mycoplasma haemocanis and Candidatus Mycoplasma haematoparvum), and Lyme disease. Screen Shot 2013-03-15 at 2.31.02 PM Our feline donors have been blood typed for A, B and AB and screened for Anaplasma, Cytauxzoon felis, Ehrlichia, Feline Hemotropic Mycoplasma (Mycoplasma haemofelis, Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis and Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum), Bartonella, FIV and FeLV. Our blood typing and screening is performed by Animal Blood Resources International (ABRI). Our packed red blood cells are stored in a Jewett blood banking refrigerator, and our fresh frozen plasma is stored in a Jewett Plasma Freezer at -30°C.
